திருக்குறள்- तिरुक्कुरळ - Thirukkural and Management Concepts - An Intro

In today’s world every organization or business enterprise gives top priority to adopt/implement the management concepts/principles to achieve the organization goals.

"Management is a social and technical process that utilizes resources, influences human action and facilitates changes in order to accomplish an organization's goals." - Tho Harmann, William Scott.

The Management is the process of planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating and controlling the activities towards the accomplishment of an organization’s goals.  

A Leader has inherent qualities and skills which assist him in playing the vital role in the managerial operations to achieve organization goals.

Managers are highly crucial to the success of the organization/business. Effective Managers understand how to plan, organize, lead and control to achieve the organizational success.  

A good manager will have the skills of Motivation, Problem solving, professionalism, good communication, innovation and technical skills. 

The world has felt the importance of management concepts /principles only in 20^th century. Nowadays, number of books are available in the market on management concepts/principles about Managing resources, Leadership qualities and skills, Managerial skills, Effective managers, Planning, Communication skills etc, and every organization or business enterprise impart management training to their employees on a regular basis to make them as effective managers.  

It is amazing that 2000 years ago, our great saint and scholar Thiruvalluvar, has explained the Management Principles/concepts in his sacred couplets Thirukkural  (तिरुक्कुरळ  ).  

In different couplets (Kural) he has explained about Personality development, Motivation, Leadership skill and qualities, Strategic Planning, Financial Management, Business Management, Project Management, Risk Management, Communication skills, Stress management, Team work, Work force & Work Place management, etc.  

Even more mind-blowing is the fact that each couplet (Kural) contains only seven words. Aiyan Thiruvalluvar, in his unique way, has explained management principle/concepts in a very simple manner.

Two years back, I have created a WhatsApp group in the name of “Namadhu Thirukkural”. In this series, I posted one Kural everyday explaining the management concept/ principle that it had spoken about. This had a very good response. I am extending the same through this blog compiling all those posts on selective kurals. 

I am thankful to my School and College mentors and most of my special thanks to GAIL (India) Limited Management, who mentored and provided me directions. 

My sincere thanks to my wife Smt. Chitra Viswanathan for motivating me and my sincere thanks all WhatsApp group “Namadhu Thirukkural” members for encouraging me to complete this amazing Thirukkural and Management concepts. My regards to Mrs. Srividya LakshmiNarayanan for bringing out this blog successfully.
