Project Management
Despite the obvious importance of good planning and execution, relatively few
management thinkers have focused on what kinds of processes and leadership are
best for turning a strategy into results. This lack of expertise in execution
can have serious consequences.
The
gap between expectation and performance is a failure to execute the company’s
strategy effectively. The
biggest factor of all may be executive inattention. Plans are often simply
agreed to and then forgotten. Ignoring
failure makes it much harder to identify execution bottlenecks and take
corrective action.
To
overcome these issues:
- Develop a model for execution
- Choose the right metrics
- Don’t forget the plan
- Get more real-time feedback
- Assess performance frequently.

Thiruvalluvar says
Explanation by Scholars:
Those who are destitute of executive ability will fail to carry out their
projects, although they may have contrived aright.
