The Impartial Leader

Leadership Qualities

When powerful leaders want to get their way, they can overtly and covertly pressure the group into agreement. Such pressure is defined as capitulation to power.

Each one of us is naturally biased.  Family backgrounds, culture, learning environments and experience heavily influence the way we think and the decisions we make. It is difficult not to show favoritism of one over others.

However, when it comes to leadership,  the value of impartiality is more important.
Impartiality means fairness, showing lack of favoritism.

An impartial leader
  • Focuses on making good decisions that benefit everyone, not just a few.
  • Treats each person differently, according to their needs, but always as equally important.
  • Follows a stated process, not the whims of a few.
  • Is self aware to watch for potential discrimination and dishonesty.
  • Moves forward with confidence without worrying what others think.
Great leaders truly care about those they lead. They always have the best interest of everyone at heart.  Such leaders can move their team forward faster and farther when favoritism and prejudices are removed.

Aiyan Thiruvalluvar says
